How To Resist The Subversion Of Humanity with Julian Rose

How To Resist The Subversion Of Humanity with Julian Rose Julian Rose is a writer, organic farmer, international activist and holistic practitioner/teacher. Two of Julian’s books ‘Creative Solutions to a World in Crisis’ and ‘Overcoming the Robotic Mind – Why Humanity Must Come Through’ are particularly prescient reading for this time. See  for more information. Puppet Dictators Play a Covid Card Too Far By Julian Rose The attempt to make the irrational and implausible appear rational and plausible has now reached dizzying new heights. The ceaseless flow of blatantly contradictory proclamations and actions emanating out of governments and global institutions that represent health, the economy and justice, sets the scene for the puppet dictators to play their Covid crisis cards. With approximately three billion people now under house arrest, it certainly is not a pretty picture.

111 – Nate Postlethwait – The Other Side of Saved

“Forgiveness is not a tool to heal trauma.” ~Nate Postlethwait

Here’s the thing about my conversation with Nate Postlethwait: his story made this Wounded Healer all sorts of mad – in the best possible way!

Buckle in because Nate’s journey from confused and closeted to out and authentic is a white-knuckle ride on the complex trauma rollercoaster. There are enviable highs – travel, career success. There are stomach-churning lows – sexual abuse, intense religious indoctrination, conversion therapy. And then, there’s a moment of messy, divine clarity when a broken man grabbed hold of his agency, stepped off that ride and found the other side of saved.

Now, Nate’s ready to share the lessons he’s learned from “doing the work”. He’s currently busy prepping a coaching program with a unique six months on/one month off timeline.

Beyond that, Nates wants to give back by creating a safe megaphone for others to use. “This version of the ride has come to a complete stop but there’s so much more to Nate’s story on the podcast! Go. Listen. Now!

GUEST BIO

In 2018, Nate Postlethwait sold almost everything he owned, left a lucrative career and boarded a plane for Croatia. He traveled internationally for six months while sharing his story of overcoming complex trauma, his battle with addiction and eventually coming out as gay. The story exposes the vulnerabilities many of us feel, but are afraid to say out loud. Several thousand people are following along and a community of survivors are finding solace amongst others who know their pain.

Heads up: This conversation was recorded before shelter-in-place orders were rolled out across the US to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. You won’t hear any reference to the pandemic in the episode beyond my introduction.

Practicing Self Comfort

The ability to self comfort is essential to our sense of self and well-being. The baby is born helpless and dependent. He(she) must be nourished to grow and thrive. Besides physical needs the baby has an inherent psychological need to be held, cuddled and warmly embraced by the parenting figure.

As a child of a narcissistic parent you were deprived of these experiences. Rather,

As a child:

You weren’t comforted

You felt like a stranger in your home

You were hypervigilant

You felt abandoned and alone

You always worried

YOu were constantly anxious

You weren’t allowed to cry

You slept lightly or not at all

You were always tired

You struggled through the days; you dreaded the nights

Now as an adult you can learn to practice self comfort:

The fine art of rest, Discovering beauty, Tapping into your wise child.

Leading Others to Resilience — 3 Ways to Accelerate Organizational Recovery During Crisis: Interview with Bob VandePol | Episode 59

Why Predictability, Control, and Safety Matter in Crisis Management
The hallmarks of a traumatic experience are Unpredictability, Powerlessness and Threat. As leaders, the way that we can best assist our team is to help create the opposite of those things which is Predictability, Safety and Control.

Predictability – inform your staff of what to expect as much as possible. For example, what time communications will occur, advanced notice for meetings etc.

Safety – making sure that work environments are safe physically is important but also staff being able to trust that they will not be humiliated or embarrassed if they make a mistake is equally as essential to a safe workplace.

Control – whenever possible, give staff choices. For example, give them options about breaks, scheduling and tasks.

Safety, Predictability and Control are the antidotes for Unpredictability, Powerlessness and Threat.

In this interview I speak with crisis response expert Bob VandePol on crisis leadership. We explore the questions of how do leaders embody resilience during trauma? How can leaders sustain a group commitment to a mission greater than the individual? How can leaders cultivate trust and social support when things feel out of control? How do we develop a resilience plan that transitions people to grow through crisis?
