Listener Q&A: How Do You Help Someone Identify Their Strengths and Weaknesses?

Today’s question comes from Shelley, a mom with ADHD kids, and a teacher with ADHD students. She wrote,

I’m married to a wonderful man with adhd and several of my children have adhd. I’m also a middle school special education teacher and fully half of my students have adhd. How can I as a teacher help my students learn about their own strengths and weaknesses and provide them with ways to try strategies that will help them succeed? I feel that we fail adhd kids in school by our own lack of knowing how to help them take ownership of their learning.

Today’s question is answered by guest-expert, Dr. Kelli Miller, a licensed psychologist at Forman School.
