My Wakeup Call

My Wakeup Call

I’m Dr. Mark Goulston, and this is My Wakeup Call. Everybody has wakeup calls, but not everybody wakes up. In this podcast, we speak to people who did. In fact, they not only woke up, but their wakeup call changed their life, and changed how they would spend the rest of their life. In every case, the wakeup call was not pleasant, sought-after, and usually shook people to the core of their being. But in every case, it made our guests more authentic, better at life, better in life, and better human beings. I hope you will listen-in and become as inspired as I am from every episode. I also hope it will help you persevere if you are going through a wakeup call and haven’t yet gotten through the pain of it, or landed in your future as the better person you’re meant to be, with the better life that you’re meant to have.

Timeout for Mental Health

Timeout for Mental Health

The Time Out for Mental Health Podcast is where we speak to sports figures about their experience with Mental Health issues related to Depression, Masculinity and Suicide. These sensitive topics are often swept under the rug as detailed in my new book, YOU DON’T HAVE TO SWALLOW YOUR GUN, A Simple Book for Men About Depression, Masculinity and Suicide. Men, in particular, need support to ask for help when they feel “OFF” and don’t know what is really going on with them. If they do not seek help, their behavior can turn dangerous, including, alcoholism, drug and pill addiction, anger, fighting, violence and in some cases death by suicide. On the podcast, we want to uncover these issues so men can live a happy and healthy life, even if they do suffer from Mental Health issues.

The Bipolar OG

The Bipolar OG

I’m Lisa, “The Bipolar OG” It’s a title I chose after having Bipolar Disorder – Type1 Diagnosis for 40 years! I’m a Certified Peer Support Specialist, advocate for mental health, removing stigmas and stopping bullying. Ignoring the severity of my illness early on led to its rapid progression, and my unmanaged mania led to psychosis and I now have Psychotic Features. Prior to the management of my illness, my life had been constant suicide ideation and I attempted suicide over 6 times. Having Bipolar Disorder is exhausting, and left untreated, can lead to devastating consequences. For myself, it did 10 years ago, and it was horrifying not only for me, but everyone around me. That tragedy however, led to what I consider nothing short of a miracle, because for the past 8 years I have been stable, suicide ideation free, and have a happiness I never dreamt possible. If I can do it, you can do it too!

Which Way?

Which Way?

Mother and daughter tell parallel stories about trauma and its impact on the generations that follow. Jann Simmons’ story is a heart wrenching account of an orphaned child who suffered brutality at the hands of her mother, as well as many others. As an adult, Jann’s mind was closed to the horrors of her abuse, betrayal and abandonment until the day they all came flooding back to her conscious mind. That awareness began a 40-year transformation from a passive victim to resilient warrior. As a young teen, Shari struggled to make sense of her mother’s pain, but as a career mental-health therapist, she began to understand her mother’s journey and learn how trauma affects the brain. She offers strategies in this book for those suffering from past or present trauma or for those who love someone who is suffering. Both women tell their stories and drive home the fact that the choices we make can lead to self-hatred and resentment or to a life of courage, healing and beauty. An unforgettable story of love and transformation that will resonate with mothers, daughters, trauma survivors, those who love them and those who’ve made a career out of helping them heal.
