I’m Lisa, “The Bipolar OG.” It’s a title I chose after having Bipolar Disorder – Type1 Diagnosis for 40 years! I’m a Certified Peer Support Specialist, advocate for mental health, removing stigmas and stopping bullying. Ignoring the severity of my illness early on led to its rapid progression, and my unmanaged mania led to psychosis and I now have Psychotic Features. Prior to the management of my illness, my life had been constant suicide ideation and I attempted suicide over 6 times. Having Bipolar Disorder is exhausting, and left untreated, can lead to devastating consequences. For myself, it did 10 years ago, and it was horrifying not only for me, but everyone around me. That tragedy however, led to what I consider nothing short of a miracle, because for the past 8 years I have been stable, suicide ideation free, and have a happiness I never dreamt possible. If I can do it, you can do it too!
