Psychopathy Awareness II with Claudia Moscovici

Claudia Moscovici, founder of Psychopathy Awareness Blog (psychopathyawareness.wordpress.com) joins Andrea Schneider, LCSW today to discuss the prevalence of psychopathy and the covert nature of this form of psychological abuse. She shares with listeners her expertise on how the public can be informed and protected from psychopathic (and narcissistic) abuse.

Moscovici was born in Bucharest, Romania. At the age of 12, she immigrated with her family to the United States where she has gone on to obtain a B.A. from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Brown University. Moscovici taught philosophy, literature and arts and ideas at Boston University and at the University of Michigan. Born in Bucharest, Romania, she writes from her experience of life in a totalitarian regime, which marked her deeply.

In 2002, she co-founded with Mexican sculptor Leonardo Pereznieto the international aesthetic movement called “Postromanticism”,[2] devoted to celebrating beauty, passion and sensuality in contemporary art. She wrote a book on Romanticism and its postromantic survival called Romanticism and Postromanticism, (Lexington Books, 2007) and taught philosophy, literature and arts and ideas at Boston University and at the University of Michigan. Most recently, she published a nonfiction book on psychopathic seduction, called Dangerous Liaisons (Hamilton Books, 2011) and a psychological thriller called The Seducer (forthcoming in March, 2012), which tells the story of a woman lured by a dangerous psychopathic predator.

Women’s Mental Health From A Chicana/Indigenous Holistic Perspective

Listen in as The Savvy Shrink interviews Emilia Ortega-Jara, LCSW, owner of Corazon Counseling Services in Riverside, CA. We are fortunate to hear Emilia’s wisdom as a licensed clinical social worker with a practice specialty of women’s mental health from a Chicana/indigenous holistic perspective. We will learn how she approaches the clients she serves and how best to honor and bear witness to the challenges Chicano/Latino clients face in this heated political time.

Emilia’s therapeutic work incorporates various traditional indigenous wisdom, and eastern wellness teachings along with evidence based psychotherapy techniques such as CBT and DBT. In addition, she brings a social justice framework into my healing practice addressing the historical trauma many have experienced due to the social, cultural, and political inequalities that to this day continue to negatively affect the mental and emotional wellness of families. Emilia has extensive training in perinatal mood/anxiety disorders, EMDR, and has a bilingual Spanish speaking practice.

Sensory Processing Disorder: It’s More Common than You Think

SPD (Sensory Processing Disorder) impacts approximately 1 in 6 children, which results in difficulty with self-regulation, academics, and social relationships. SPD is often misdiagnosed or overlooked as a valid concern impacting the functioning of young children. A neurobiological condition, SPD is not bad parenting. Parents of children with SPD need and deserve support and resources.
