In this episode Stephanie and Sydney Holmes go over some important tips for teachers when they have a child on the spectrum in their class. They also discuss how to make accommodations without making any of the students feel uncomfortable.

Sydney is off to college and joined us live at the 2019 Converge Autism Summit to talk about girls on the autism spectrum. She talks about what was helpful for her when it came time to go back to school.

Stephanie C. Holmes, M.A., is a Certified Autism Specialist and Credentialed Christian Counselor with the Board of Examiners for Georgia Christian Counselors and Therapists and was formerly an LPC in North Carolina. Stephanie’s career path changed when her oldest daughter was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome in 2005. She began to change her focus to the world of IEPs and 504 educational plans and understand how to help special needs students in the classroom. In addition, she also helps families deal with their frustrations and challenges having a special needs child. Stephanie founded Autism Spectrum Resources for Marriage & Family and practices counseling at her home church, Church of Chapelhill- Dunwoody Campus. She specializes in Aspie- NT marriage therapy and has clients across the country through Skype consultation. She is a doctoral candidate at Abilene Christian University pursuing her doctorate in Education and is the author of Confessions of a Christian Counselor: How Infertility and Autism Grew my Faith.
