Pandemic Self-Care 2020: Lt. David Bond

COVID19 has and is changing everything we understood about how we live and conduct ourselves in our day to day lives. We stand together as a nation, a country, a world and as members of the Human Race.
I started this podcast to bring together those that wish to help break the stigma of mental health issues among First Responders and to everyone even if you are not on the front lines every day and putting your lives out there so others can have peace. We are in this together and if we can understand ourselves better then we can be there for the ones who need us. Our family, children, friends and the strangers who reach out their hands praying they can get out of it.
David Bond retired as a police lieutenant after 27 years and has been working as a therapist with Focus Psychological Services in San Diego after going back to school to become a Psy.D. We talk about living in this atmosphere of powerlessness and how as a country, as a human race, we will overcome and be stronger than before.

Finding Opportunities and Creating a New Normal – TPS410

It’s as if the whole world is turning upside down as we go through this unprecedented period of our lives. It’s important to rise above the fear so you can see the opportunities that abound and take action in a new direction. It’s up to us to create the new normal.

Highlights

At a Zoom meeting I had recently, we all agreed that we aren’t going to go back to the old normal.
What are you going to do to plan a future without a model to work from?
It’s hard to come up with good ideas when you are in fear.
There are always ways of thinking outside of the box. There’s a problem if you’re afraid of technology.
Your brain is going to tell you that change is dangerous.
Think of a positive future. It’s time to let go of the things you really don’t like to do.
There are always options.
Allow your life to be a little more spontaneous.
I talk about the restaurant business and how they might change how they deliver their food.
The future is whatever you make it and you have the option of making new choices.
You may have to learn new skills.
What is a skill that you have that you can do differently while collaborating with other people?
During this time, learn something new.
This is the winter of the planet when things are dormant.

Healing in the Parasympathetic Zone

Quoting from my current book: Recovering and Healing After the Narcissist:

“In the parasympathetic some individuals hear words of healing insight. Others see an array of colors. The parasympathetic state is unique to each individual.”

“An innovative way to immerse yourself in the parasympathetic nervous system is to create Blue Zone Islands within your living space. Using variations of the color blue in your space activates a calming and soothing response inside of you.

Blue in its limitless varieties surrounds us with exquisite healing beauty.

“Let yourself flow with the colors of blue that touch you deeply and evoke feelings and sensations of peace and wonder. Surround yourself with collections of colored stones, shells, glass beads, woven fabrics, tapestries, objects that have meaning to you alone and put them in special places in your place—on tables, in the kitchen, bathroom, window sills—anywhere you can pause for beauty and calming.”
